Core: Relic Level I

Embedded War Engine (Relic Level I)

War Engine Core (Passive Effects)

  • Intelligence is reduced to 5; programmed to recognize patterns (Minuataruian language variant: Acheron Code)
  • Constiution maximum score potential increased by 1
  • When reduced to 0 HP, roll 1d6:
  • Particial-Gift of  Bloodlust:
On 5–6: drop to 1 HP instead and immediately enter Rage (no action required)

Overclock Surge (Passive Trigger)

When Gauthak enters Rage, the engine flares:

  • Gain temporary HP equal to Barbarian level
  • Melee weapon deal 1 extra damage
  • The ground in a 10 ft radius trembles (difficult terrain for enemies until next turn)
  • When in a rage, Gauthak can grapple creatures 1 size larger than himself

Stressed-Out

Each time Gauthak does one of the following, he gains 1 Stress Point. Player should track their stress points and inform the DM when one is triggered.

  • Drops to 0 HP
  • Fails a Wisdom save while raging
  • Critically hits twice in one combat-rage
  • Fails to grapple a creature 1 size larger than him

Notes about Intelligence 5 roleplay:

  • Your mind is a steel trap; nothing in, nothing out.
  • Common problems for characters with low intelligence might include disadvantage when trying to recall details longer than a day old, illiteracy, disadvantage to Intelligence ability checks, inability to follow conversations etc...
  • lliteracy is probable, extra languages are out of the question and puzzles are impossible (exception: mazes due to programming). Thinking is hard and having to learn new things is beyond your comprehension and mechanically limited by the relic.
  • This character does not heavily rely on active thoughts or memory, rather it's war programs and independent desires/use of will

Inspiration: Karlack Cliffgate, BG3, also Barbarian enslaved in Blood War (but via Zariel):

Face the Fury of Fate.
In the War for your Soul:
Shatter the Silence
Be Bold.
