Session 7: Many Reflections-Not-Deceptions
I. The Floating Feast Hall
The party gathered within a floating, abandoned city feast hall drifting through Ysgards layers. Around a table set for twelve, the survivors of the gauntlet shared a meal that felt both sacred and eerie. Near the table, the False Wand of Orcus—the "Correction Attempt #731" that had targeted them during the battle—held by Zigga, its obsidian surface flickering with repressed arcane magic.
Hraefn the Broken Chooser paced the perimeter of the hall, his fractured wings casting uneven shadows as he remained deep in thought, his golden eye frequently darting toward Zigga. The party raised a toast to Kayne, acknowledging the member they believed was still trapped in the loops of Sigil.
II. The Return of the Auditor
The peace was interrupted when Maryn’bl received a message from her pseudodragon, Mindi. Stating, "Perhaps I'll return with an ally," she departed the feast hall, visibly buoyed by news from the monk Baji that Kayne’s memories had unraveled from the Regulator device.
She located Kayne and Baji at a bathhouse in Sigil. Thanking Baji in front of Kayne before turning excited attention towards the fellow cager. For the first time, Maryn’bl and Kayne stood face-to-face with full cognitive continuity, their history as professional rivals and "Audit Case REC-Δ-7741 7743" now accepted as something that was only meant to liberate them. She understands that he knows epic truths about their paths. Soon to discover why that was.
Following an unexpectedly pleasant greeting, Kayne states his intention to return to the party. Pleased that his memories have returned, Maryn’bl leads him around the corner to the nearest portal to the upper-outlands. From there it's very chilly, but also offers a breath of fresh air. Using a Planeshift scroll, they arrive at the floating hall in Ysgard. (Very lawful travel used.)
Though Farryn was asleep at the table upon their arrival, the rest of the party greeted the liberated Kayne with ecstatic relief and great cheer!
Maryn'bl chooses to sit next to Grisland, where they have a peaceful, quiet mingling. Narration indicated that these characters were showing interest but not through words, but through small acts and breaths that revealed to each other: I can see you, I can feel you, and I want to. Neither feeling the need to express it outwardly, it was obvious that it is becoming difficult to hide from themselves.
Players investigate Farryns sleep due to her being an elf, and her notably being sleepy in previous sessions also. Particularly Zigga is very, very obviously connecting the pieces accurately, "She's done this before!", and "She's not supposed to though, she's an elf and they aren't supposed to need to do this guy!"
- Using the distance discipline Maryn'bl maintains to protect herself and her allies, she did not question or use magic on Farryn. Instead, as a Cleric (medicine check), she places a finger and begins counting her breaths, pulse, and looks for celestial or infernal pattern interruptions. (She experiences these from Old Grin, and wanted to see if something was stealing or giving energy.) Player noted that she receives some pulses from the Upper Planes and they are welcomed. After several minutes, Farryn still asleep, she continues to revel the truth, "This elf is truly asleep..."
III. The Meditation of Grisland
Grisland entered a deep meditation to examine his spiritual tether to Maryn’bl, resulting in three profound realizations:
- The Compact’s Shadow (INT 6): He perceived the Shattered Compact as a glaring, blinding light that reminded him of Farryn rather than Maryn'bl...
- The Student’s Recognition (WIS 10): He realized Maryn’bl possesses soul-level connections to the same divine framework as himself, connections to Ysgard. He recognizes her as a student who had visited him the afterlife; her mastery over the demon (Old Grin) which was a direct result of the monastic training she received under his guidance in Ysgard. (Grisland's PC page has been updated.)
- The Choice of Mortality (WILL 6): He found a lack of traditional relational threads—no family or friend anchors outside of the World Tree and his own divine domains. He realized he had entered this battle as a mortal because he was not whole, and that he never intended to return to his former state until his own choices were made. (Last Tankard Monastery has been updated.)

IV. The Dreams of the Line Anchor
While Grisland meditated, Gauthak had vivid, high-speed dreams of the Shattered Compact.
- The Action-Movie Vision: His mind replayed the endless war like a rapid action reel. To the Goliath, death remained a confusing concept—merely a state where "It all goes to sleep".
- The Emotional Core: While general battle dreams merely "pumped him up", his body kicking in his sleep like a dog caught in a chase.
V. The Morning Audit
The party awoke to find new books stashed in their packs, likely containing fragments of the Written Archives.
- Farryn’s Amnesia: Upon waking, Farryn remembered nothing of the previous day’s events. The players inform her of their victory and the Wand’s rejection, (a symptom of her divinity).
- The New Kayne: Kayne was fully integrated back into the group, no longer just a "careful clueless" but a Bold Cager, a Wizard-Druid synthesis.
- For breakfast, the party enjoyed a colorful spread of General Mills cereal, a nod to the theme of "chosen sustenance".
- They do move to the feast hall for breakfast once Farryn is awake and proven able where they discuss their travels further.
VI. The Broken Chooser’s Witness
In the quiet following breakfast, Hraefn pulled Zigga aside. He admitted to being profoundly confused by the multiversal system he was built to serve, confessing that he wished to witness her choice in "becoming". While he clearly harbored burgeoning feelings for the "Uncounted" Rogue, his celestial nature left him visibly bewildered by the complexity of his own emotional processing.
In a quiet moment of calm and curious desire he asks if he could remain with her as a guardian of her choices. He wants to know what she will become. Hraefen wants to understand what it means to choose something. Zigga's eyes tell him more than her words, "Of course you can!" This acceptance of him changes him in an instant from a Valkyrie to her personal Guardian Angel. Much like Gauthak's incredible achievements, Zigga helps Hraefn's Wing begin to heal.
Part 2: The Mirrors of Sylvania
I. The Return to Iedcaru
Utilizing a cache of Planeshift scrolls, the party departed the floating halls of Muspelheim and reappeared in the Outlands near the walking castle Iedcaru, nicknamed Stompy.
Demonstrating her role as the party’s hidden financial anchor, Maryn’bl provided the Z-Bag, containing a substantial dividend of 2,500pp (a distribution of 5,000gp each) to ensure the party was well-equipped for their circuit through the gate-towns. Then, Maryn’bl made a brief departure to tend to her own administrative shielding.
When they arrived back at Stompy Zigga successfully retrieved her Violin, which her sister Zaga had previously arranged to have delivered to the castle’s caretaker, Zaythir, nicknamed Yur before she left to investigate the data drift in Ysgard, finding the party there.
Gauthak navigated the parties castle toward the boisterous glade of Sylvania, gate-town to Arborea.
II. Within the Mirrored Sanctuary
While the castle stomped through the Outlands, Zigga utilized her Mirror Meld ability to enter the reflective demi-plane within her Boots (Slippers of Mirror Melding). Inside the Mirrored Sanctuary the environment failed to resolve into standard geometry, appearing as a vast, liquid space of fractured angles and golden threads.
She was met by Nyxara, appearing in her ballerina form. True to her nature as a "rightful bitch," Nyxara circled Zigga with predatory smirks, her movements out of sync with her reflection. At the far end of the chamber sat Azrakiel, the Sultan of the Uncounted, a regal entity of void-touched skin seated upon a golden throne. Unlike the chaotic Nyxara, the Sultan was peaceful and respectful, extending his hand to take the False Wand from Zigga.
III. Echoes of the Casino Night
Through a series of rude pushes and pulls from Nyxara—who used the moment to dance and distract—Zigga extracted long-buried truths about the prelude at Fortune's Wheel:
- The Hidden Witness: Zigga was present at the casino because Zaga was absent; her specific mission was to watch over the "milk drinker" (Gauthak), ensuring the Rite of Willing Milk remained stable.
- The Unlucky Spark: Nyxara warned that Farryn’s presence that night was a double-edged sword: "both Lucky and VERY unlucky,".
- The Auditor’s Wager: She confirmed that the "kid with the book" (Kayne) lost a high-stakes bet against a monk (Grisland). The crowd was visibly upset because they had been manipulated to want the "lawful boy" to win, and Kayne himself had been forced into the gamble through charm or blackmail possibly involving his missing mother.
IV. The Disbelief of the Party
When Zigga emerged from the mirrors, the party was met with total shock. Watching her walk through mirrors and solid walls as if they were "negative space" left the group in a state of disbelief. The Goliath Gauthak, attempting to replicate the feat, smacked face-first into a mirror, solidifying the party’s consensus that Zigga (and Farryn!) were being "a wee-bit strange" even by planar standards.
V. The Revels of Sylvania
The party arrived in Sylvania, finding the town in its usual state of nonstop celebration. They acquired costumes to blend into the boisterous glade and vibed with the local events:
- The Arena: TA high-stakes horse race where the spectators "roasted" the competitors with verbal barbs.
- Giant Sumo: massive giants engaging in sumo wrestling matches
- The Inn: Inside the Yearning Timbers, the main stage will feature a performance by the Sootveil Masquerade, whose sect is missing their script writer
- The Lights: They marveled at the ephemeral lights drifting through the whimsical architecture and ageless trees.
Looking for Hope
Gauthak sneaks off to climb the Great Tree and oversee the roasting races at the Arena.
Grisle goes into a tavern and asks patrons there if they have seen the modron. A drunken dwarf and bearded tall elf elder help to reveal the following:
- R0AM or "Rofum" was seen at celebrations in the outskirts of events last week
- It was looking for the 'luckiest girl in the world'
- It implied that who she was looking for was 'late'
- A seperate rumor is circling around the younger kids: they saw a rainbow modron disappear right before their eyes
VI. The Stroll of the Uncounted
Zigga, Kayne, and Farryn took the Mosaic Mimir on a long stroll toward the gate to Arborea. The journey was defined by a surge of raw, unindexed emotions:
- Kayne (The Auditor): He experienced a complex synthesis of loss and grief for his family, frustration at his past servitude, but a burgeoning sense of being liberated by his new druidic spirit .
- Zigga (The Variable): She moved in a state of confusion and deep curiosity, struggling to reconcile her Rakdos "noise" with the Sultan’s "peaceful" silence.
- Farryn (The Awakening): She felt optimistic yet anxious, her whimsical Eladrin nature fluctuating with the proximity of her own ripening divinity.
VII. The Vision of the Watery Gate
Upon reaching the gate—a shifting portal currently residing in a watery well—Farryn saw a silver dragon reflected in the water. The resonance of the gate allowed Farryn to see deep into her own memories.
She witnessed all the beings that made her feel safe, but the vision extended into a prophesied future. She saw a world where they reached a perfect Balance: the "relics" like Gauthak were finally liberated from their war-contracts, the Great Wheel was made whole and functional again, and the entire party stood together, finally happy and safe at the end of their story.
The battle cry of the followers of Tyche :
"Fortune favors the bold."
