Fell's History (cannon)

In the City of Doors, few individuals embody the intersection of heresy and history like the dabus known as Fell. His existence is a living testament to the rise and fall of Aoskar, the dead god of portals whose name was once synonymous with Sigil itself.

Fell: The Defrocked Dabus

Fell is a dabus who serves as an outcast among his own kind. While standard dabus sweep along an inch above the ground, Fell is defined by the fact that his feet touch the soil; he was shunned by the Lady of Pain and ostracized by his kin for the ultimate blasphemy: declaring himself a priest of Aoskar.

  • The Tattoo Parlor: Fell operates a modest tattoo parlor in the Hive Ward, identified by a pearl lightning bolt above the door.
  • Ink of Reality: His tattoos are tinged with magic. While most effects are minor, some designs function as spell scrolls or can even manifest into solid, real-life objects or creatures, though these manifestations usually dissipate after a few hours.
  • The Silent Preacher: Like all dabus, Fell communicates through visual rebuses—illusory images that hang in the air—but his magic allows these symbols to graft themselves permanently onto a client's skin as vibrant ink.
  • Secret Knowledge: Despite his fall, Fell remains one of the most well-informed residents of Sigil, possessing knowledge of hundreds of portals and their corresponding keys throughout the city.
  • Vocation of Bricks: In his spare time, Fell is known to wander the Hive, bricking over dangerous ooze portals as a sign of worship to his dead god, an act of "reclaiming the past" that the other dabus ignore.

Aoskar: The God of Doors

Aoskar, also known as the Power of Portals, the Keeper of Gateways, and the God of Doors, was once the most influential deity associated with the City of Doors.

  • The Height of Influence: At the peak of his power, Aoskar boasted that half of the planewalkers in Sigil were among his worshipers. His influence was so pervasive that many believed the Lady of Pain herself was merely an aspect of his divinity.
  • The Blasphemous Grab: Aoskar subtly spread his worship through every portal in the Cage, essentially making every act of transit a prayer to his name. He eventually attempted to wrest control of Sigil from the Lady of Pain, a move that proved to be his undoing.
  • The Fall: Displeased by his intrusion, the Lady of Pain slew Aoskar and cast his petrified, withered husk into the Astral Plane. She destroyed his Great Temple of Doors, which now stands in ruins as the Shattered Temple, the current headquarters of the Athar.
  • Striken from the Record: Following his death, the Lady forbade the veneration of Aoskar under pain of death by the Mercykillers. The dabus were commanded to calmly and steadily remove his image wherever it appeared in the city.

Cannon History & "Fun" Lore

  • The Four Doors: Following Aoskar's death, the famous "Four Doors" portals in Sigil ceased to work entirely as intended, a lingering scar on the city's planar geography.
  • Atheist Proof: The Athar faction frequently points to Aoskar’s deteriorating corpse in the Astral void as primary evidence that gods are not true deities, but merely powerful beings that can be killed.
