Gauthak
The Chaotic Good Barbarian
Gauthak Gathakanathai, once known in Acheron’s military ledgers as G-7//GATH-RUK, is a goliath soul from Ysgard who was "soul-stuffed" into a frame powered by infernal-modron machinery. For millennia, he served as a Line Anchor in the War of the Shattered Compact, acting as a living point of continuity designed to hold formation even when reality itself contradicted his orders.
His current state is defined by the Mechanical Core embedded in his chest, a relic that has reduced his Intelligence to 5 while programming him to recognize patterns like "Acheron Code" and granting him the volatile Overclock Surge during combat rages.
Gauthak’s presence in the multiverse is now a "Class-IV Irregularity" because he escaped his thousand-year servitude through an illegal "Divine Window". This escape has transformed him from a high-value military asset into a "Breach in the War’s Ending," making him the primary target of the Iron Pursuit. The Pursuit’s Resolvers seek to terminate him to force a "reconstitution" back into Acheron's command frequencies, while the Retrievers aim to capture him as "misplaced property".
Despite being hunted, Gauthak is undergoing a process of Sovereign Authorship through the following mechanisms:
- The Cheevo Circuit: Encouraged by A’kin the Friendly Fiend, Gauthak follows a list of ridiculous achievements—such as owning a mermaid wall mount or "sorting" recursive goblins—to leave personal marks on a reality whose rules he does not understand.
- The Rite of Willing Milk: By utilizing the Udder Ring provided by Maryn’bl to drink milk daily, Gauthak fulfills a Hathorian sacrament of consent; because he chooses his own sustenance, he can no longer be lawfully owned as a machine.
- The Name Failsafe: There exists a master override code that can nullify Acheronian command strings and trigger a permanent severance, forcing Gauthak to finally name himself and achieve full autonomy.
Ultimately, Gauthak is the "Challenger" fated to destroy Vezrant Vale, the captured martial will that sustains the Shattered Compact's Soul-Engine. If he succeeds, he secures his own right to a Final Death (in Ysgard if he dies honorably). In legal standings with Maryn’bl to release the 10,000 souls of the machine-men still trapped in Acheron’s endless attrition in Sigil's Court she must rely on the help of the Hathor Priests, the Auditor and a Witness. Alternatively they may be forced to Sigil Court early and in this case each individual is tried and does not apply to all souls within the SC until VV is extinct.
