Grisland

Grisland Goldfeast is a celestial-planar monk of Ysgard and a practitioner of the Way of the Last Tankard tradition. Far from a simple mortal, he is secretly a "descended vow" of Mount Celestia, the son of a son of a son of a proxy who once impressed the gods. His lineage is defined not by divine power, but by integrated discipline and the lesson that power exists to be restrained.

Between mortal lives Grisland taught an entity that called itself "Commander Zagnibs" how to gain control over her possessed vessel. He taught her special incentives of survival in life such as joy, substance, and proper balance.

The Last Tankard studied continuation rather than endings. It's philosophy was not based on battle but rather choice. They were known, as were Hanseath and his sons, for going to far planes to study lost or forgotten peoples.

In & Out of the Shattered Wars

Grisland was originally sent to the iron cubes of Acheron as a spiritual witness to those denied an honorable death in the War of the Shattered Compact. During a rare celestial convergence, he recognized Gauthak's+ right to die free and helped the war-machine escape through an illegal "Divine Window". Upon arriving in Sigil, Grisland entered a brutal "Month of Death," where the multiversal glitch caused his memories to unravel and his high-level wisdom to be compressed into a limited mortal frame.

To stabilize his crumbling incarnation, the dabus Fell provided him with the "Knot of Returning Thunder" tattoo, which acts as a mnemonic seal anchoring him to a single life rather than suffering belief in absolute recursion (an illusion driving him mad when he first came to Sigil). This tattoo reveals that while he does not remember how he returns, he remembers that he does, teaching him that in Ysgardian logic, survival is not success—continuation is. Including this mortal life he is now in.

In Sigil’s legal landscape, Grisland holds a Bank Note of Acknowledged Winnings from Fortune's Wheel, granting him lawful custodial claim over Gauthak's fate and freedom. The Iron Pursuit classifies him as a "Fractured Witness"—a variable that did not declare itself—and fears his presence as an "unresolved process" that was not supposed to improve after the war. Maryn’bl Zagnibs identifies Grisland as the party’s "Clarity Engine," deeply trusting him because his monastic training mirrors her own mastery of internal chaos.

The Masked Court believes Grisland is a "Pragmatic Convertible" who can be persuaded to stop Farryn's awakening, but he is actually the only being capable of destroying the Pale Devourer through integrated loyalty, strength, luck and choice. Personally, he is known for a foul mouth, a love for Fresh Dwarven Ale, and carrying a large sphere of polished translucent amber containing a preserved scale. In combat, he possesses a "Perfect Stillness Stance" intended to resolve apotheotic paradoxes and anchor those he witnesses to a stable reality.

When Your Shadows Are My Shadows

Old Grin's thoughts since Session 6 in Ysgard... :
So you are the one that helped her win over my body.
You taught her control, patience, and... acceptance. You gave her...

... hope and she learned from it. I learned from it! We succeeded together!
Let's see if you can keep your body! If not well, I'll say the debt is settled.
Let's see if you can EARN your rites!
You will become my final challenger. Until then -- shes MINE!!!

Recommended pace: Level 10 minimum

Notes: Maryn'bl doesn't see it wholly as evil, or necessary. But it is an integrated part of her self-identity currently. She doesn't believe it's possible to live without it. Zaga? Still see's it as a foreign entity, a Nabassu demon, that she is forced to co-habitat with. Zaga enforces constant dominant control and has for a long time. That doesn't mean they "trust" each other extensively. They do have separate memory banks and experiences as well as ... preferences. True name: Zaga. Just, Zaga.
