Session 5: A Missing Moron With A Message
THE RED LEDGER AND THE ARCHIVES OF MECHANUS
The transition from the neon predatory glitz of the Fortune’s Wheel casino to the muted, ink-scented shadows of the Red Ledger marked a significant shift in the party’s understanding of their own existence. While Kayne Mountainstar remained behind at the casino, having been seemingly won over by Shemeshka the Marauder’s offers of luxury and liberation, the rest of the party met with Maryn’bl Zagnibs to uncover the cold reality of their legal standing.
Maryn’bl previously revealed the existence of Case REC-Δ-7741, a Mechanus audit titled Dual-Origin Entity Convergence / Post-Acheron Transit. This file, which Kayne himself led before his memory loss, identifies Gauthak and Grisland as violation flags whose arrival in Sigil bypassed every registered portal and lawful transit path.
Furthermore, the party learned of Director A.P. Vlathis, Kayne’s father and the Director of Irregular Continuities in Mechanus, who is currently tracking missing soul-units and modron squads.
The party has three days of shopping, rest and memory recovery from the Regulator Release.
Maryn’bl arrives at the Red Ledger to meet them, confirming that the current Great Modron March was triggered nearly two hundred years early by Tenebrous, an aspect of the demon lord Orcus who had temporarily slain and usurped Primus. This is already a new Primus in Mechanus.

THE LOGOS-VECTOR AND THE MESSAGE OF HOPE
The missing modron the party seeks, designated R04M or Delta-Nine, was identified not as a simple accountant, but as a rare Logos-Vector unit designed to monitor interplanar war-flows. Maryn’bl disclosed that while Mechanus attempts to update the unit’s status, the modron is reporting a single, illogical word: Hope. This is a severe systemic error, as modrons are not programmed to understand or transmit emotional constructs or meanings of words such as this.
Canon lore (TOFW) suggests that this specific unit was likely hijacked by Shemeshka to serve as a living ledger for illegal war contracts.
The arcanaloth merchant A'Kin, whom the party recently befriended, was revealed through Grisland’s meditation to be a proxy of Tyr, the god of Justice. While A'Kin traditionally values the story value of anomalies, his alignment with Tyr suggests he is acting as a witness for those the system has failed to account for.

THE WALKING BASTION AND THE CRYSTAL ENGINE
The party’s search led them to the Walking Castle Iedcaru, a githzerai hermitage designed for travelers to meditate on multiversal truths while traversing the Outlands. Upon arrival, they encountered a conflict between the castle’s caretaker, a githzerai named Zaythir or Yur, and a group of fiendish interlopers led by a nycoloth.
Farryn discovered Laxuelu, a humming crystal sarcophagus embedded in the castle's core that functions as a containment engine for patterns from prior multiversal cycles. Yur explained that the castle moves not through traditional navigation but through the alignment of will and mission. Gauthak successfully activated the castle’s titanic stone legs by projecting his intent to find the missing modron. The castle purred in recognition of the party, signaling that they are no longer mere passengers but recognized actors in a cycle of correction.
THE TIME DRAGON AND THE WRITTEN ARCHIVES
While aboard the castle, the party encountered a man named Edward, whose true nature was revealed to Grisland’s insight as an adult Time Dragon.
Edward presented Grisland with Book One of the Universal Laws, an artifact tied to the Law of One. This encounter introduced the concept of the Written Archives and the Lumanari Council of the living world of Manam. Unlike the Unwritten Archive in the Outlands, which redacts impossible futures, the Written Archives of Manam are intended to restore and integrate the many versions of a soul’s history into a perfected One Self. This revelation suggests that the party’s journey is not just about retrieving a modron, but about reaching a mastered resolution that transcends the deterministic recycling loops of the Great Wheel.

GLORIUM AND THE LAUNDERING OF WAR
Upon reaching the gate-town of Glorium, which leads to the heroic domains of Ysgard, the party began identifying the systemic corruption R04M had been auditing. Reports from faction members in the local feasthalls indicated that Acheron-bound war supplies were being laundered through Tradegate as innocent Bytopian infrastructure goods. This laundering operation may be directly supporting the Shattered Compact, the endless war from which Gauthak and Grisland escaped. The modron Delta-Nine had spent five days in Tradegate auditing these tariffs before moving toward the mountains. Gauthak’s presence in Glorium began to vibrate against the Acheron-forged gear of local champions, proving his status as a critical war continuity asset whose absence is causing the war engines of Acheron to misfire.
RECENT MISSIONS AND OBJECTIVES
- Locate the Logos-Vector Modron R04M: Following the path of the Great Modron March to retrieve the unit before Shemeshka’s rivals or the Iron Pursuit can silence it.
- Restore the Mosaic Mimir: Visit the gate-town portals of Glorium, Automata, Rigus, and Torch within five feet to upload missing planar data.
- Audit the Shattered Compact (optional): Investigate the laundering of war materials through Tradegate and document the legal breaches for future court testimony.
- Navigate to the Archives: Seek to stabilize the party's fractured identities.
- Free the 10,000 Souls: Utilize the legal leverages to formally reassign and release the war-assets of the Shattered Compact in the Sigil Courts. (Optional: Find those leverages and put narrative weight into them.)
- Complete the Cheevo Circuit: Assist Gauthak in completing his list of legendary feats to affirm his sovereign authorship over his destiny.
Between Sesssion convos to have with the DM privately:
- Defining what Zigga knows from her memories
- Defining what Farryn is (so that she can awaken to it)
- Defining what Gauthak's origin/life was previous to entering the Shattered Compact
- Last Tankard Monastary
- Defining which god made Grisland's forefather a proxy (as he is a son of a son of a son of a proxy) -- Hansteath!
- Defining desired relations between PCs and NPCs (directional negotiations for defining positive but challenging endgame dynamics)
